Bitcoin's whole supply split by how long each coin has sat still, drawn as coloured bands. Warm bands are recently moved coins; cool bands are coins untouched for years. Every point shown is real up to the date on the badge above the chart.
Thirteen bands stacked to 100%. Each band is the share of all bitcoin whose last movement falls inside one age range — under a day, under a week, under a month, and so on up to more than ten years.
Watch which bands grow. For example, the young warm bands swelling from 15% to 25% of supply over a few months means old coins are waking up and changing hands, which historically happens as long-time owners sell into a rally.
Cool bands thickening means coins are going quiet and staying put, which has filled the long flat stretches between cycles. It tells you who is holding and for how long, **never** which way the price goes.
In words: for each age range, take the bitcoin whose last movement falls inside it, divide by the total supply and show it as a percentage. The bands are stacked with the oldest coins at the base.
Every point on screen is real and complete up to the date on the badge **above** the chart. The outside feed that supplied them is switched off for good; our own Bitcoin node — a full copy of the blockchain that we run ourselves — is recounting this series from the very first block, and new points resume once that finishes.
Age is measured by the last movement on the blockchain, so coins traded inside an exchange **never** appear to move and stay in the older bands.
bitcoin-data.com supplied the coins-per-age-band numbers behind this chart, one point per day, and each one is real up to the snapshot date shown. Safu switched that feed off for good because its licence does not let us republish the data — no paid key and no purchased history are planned. Safu's own Bitcoin node is re-reading the blockchain from 2009 to rebuild this history. Feed no longer used.
