BTC Sharpe Ratio (1Y): -0.521
How much reward Bitcoin paid over the past year for how bumpy the ride was. Higher means better returns for the turbulence endured.
A score comparing Bitcoin's average daily gain over the last 365 days against how wildly those daily moves jumped around. It answers one question: were the gains worth the stomach-churning?
For example, 2.0 means an unusually strong and unusually smooth year โ solid gains without violent swings. Around 0 means the year's ups and downs cancelled each other out.
Below 0 means holding lost money over the year, so all that turbulence paid nothing at all. It rewards steady climbs and punishes wild ones, so two years with the same total gain score very differently if one was calm and the other was not.
In words: take the average daily price change over the last 365 days, divide it by how much those daily changes vary, then scale the answer up to a full year [average daily return รท standard deviation of daily returns, times the square root of 365].
It **does not** subtract what a safe savings account would have paid, so treat it as a reward-for-turbulence score rather than the strict textbook version. It looks back exactly one year and says nothing about what comes next.
The alert on this chart bands at 0 โ the line where a year of holding stops making money โ and at the measured 90th percentile of all 5,457 daily readings we hold (2.9198, 2011-08-19 โ 2026-07-27), not at the round 2.0 drawn here: 31.7% of days sit above 2.0 but **only** 10.0% above 2.9198. That pair changes band 5 times a year.
