The line is the headline: what one bitcoin cost at the end of each day. The bars underneath are how much money actually traded, and they tell you how much conviction was behind the move.
For example, a 4% jump on a day with $60 billion traded is backed by real buying; the same 4% jump on a $12 billion day is thin and more easily reversed.
Price uses the shared stored series: blockchain.info first, then a checked Coinbase BTC-USD fallback for missing values. The fallback is the previous completed UTC day’s close, assigned to the next midnight after a ten-minute grace period. It never uses a forming candle. Volume = the gateway’s BTC trading quantity × its own USD Bitcoin price for the exact same UTC date. The conversion is accepted only after it reproduces overlapping legacy USD values.
Volume covers a sample of exchanges, not the whole market. Legacy USD history is preserved. Missing volume or its matching provider price stays a gap; Coinbase volume or price is not substituted into this calculation. The first partial gateway day and current UTC day are excluded. These are daily points, not intraday OHLC candles.
Price uses the shared blockchain.info / Coinbase series. Volume preserves legacy blockchain.info USD history; missing later days use the official Blockchain.com gateway with a verified BTC-to-USD conversion.
