A short-horizon profit ratio: bitcoin's average price over the last 50 days divided by the average price its owners paid over the same 50 days. Above 1 the market is running hot; below 1 it is cool. Every point shown is real up to the date on the badge above the chart.
Take bitcoin's average price over the last 50 days, and the 50-day average of the price at which all coins last changed hands, then divide the first by the second. Smoothing both sides over 50 days strips out daily noise.
For example, 1.6 means bitcoin has been trading about 60% **above** what its owners paid, on a smoothed 50-day view โ the market is running hot. Below 1.0 the price has sat under the market's own cost for weeks, which has **only** happened during deep downturns.
Because both sides are 50-day averages, it confirms a shift rather than catching it early.
In words: the 50-day average of bitcoin's price divided by the 50-day average of the price all coins last changed hands at.
