BTC Bitcoin Bear Market: $79,676.63
Bitcoin's whole price history with every major downturn marked in red β each stretch where the price sat more than 50% below its previous record and had not yet recovered. Gold marks the rising periods.
A downturn is coloured **red** from the day the price first falls 50% **below** its running record high until the day it sets a new record. Everything outside those stretches is gold.
It shows how long and how deep past downturns actually ran, which is easy to forget in the middle of one. For example, the 2018 stretch stays **red** for over a year and reached about 84% **below** the previous peak β anyone who bought at that peak waited close to three years to get back to even.
Four red stretches in fifteen years is what this pattern rests on, far too few to promise anything about the next one.
In words: track the highest price bitcoin has ever reached up to each day, colour the line **red** whenever the price is more than 50% **below** that record and has not yet set a new one, and gold the rest of the time.
The 50% threshold is a choice, not a definition β a shallower cut-off would mark more **red** stretches and a deeper one fewer. The current period's colour can still change, because a new record price ends a red stretch retroactively.
