The 30-day average of Bitcoin's total computing power compared with the highest that average has ever reached, shown as a percentage **below** that record.
For example, โ25% means smoothed computing power sits a quarter **below** its record โ a large share of machines have been unplugged, which happens when the price falls below what electricity costs. Zero means the network has just set a new record.
In past cycles the deepest dips, around โ35% to โ50%, came within weeks of major price lows, though that is four events across fifteen years.
