BTC Hashrate: 894.31M
How much computing power the whole world is pointing at Bitcoin โ the machines racing to add the next block. More power means the network is harder to attack.
Hashrate means the total number of guesses per second that mining machines worldwide make while racing to solve the next block. It is shown here in terahashes per second (TH/s): one TH/s is a trillion guesses a second, and 1,000,000 TH/s is what people write as 1 EH/s.
Rising means more machines have been plugged in, so the network is better protected and miners expect mining to stay worth doing. A sharp fall means machines were switched off โ a power cut in a mining region, or electricity costing more than the coins earned.
For example, if it reads 700,000,000 TH/s (700 EH/s) and a month later 620,000,000 TH/s, roughly one machine in ten went dark over that month. It tells you about the health of mining, not about price.
Taken as blockchain.info publishes it. Nobody can count guesses directly, so the number is worked backwards from how fast blocks are actually being found compared with how hard the puzzle is currently set.
It is an estimate, not a measurement, and it is noisy day to day because finding blocks is luck โ a run of fast blocks looks like a surge of new machines that **never** happened. Read the trend over weeks, not days.
