BTC Dollar Strength (broad trade-weighted index): 118.07
What the US dollar is worth against the currencies America actually trades with, weighted by how much trade there is. A strong dollar has historically been a headwind for bitcoin; a weak one, a tailwind.
The Federal Reserve's broad dollar index: the dollar's value against a basket of the currencies of America's trading partners, each weighted by how much trade the United States does with that country. January 2006 is set to 100, so 120 means the dollar buys about 20% more of that basket than it did then.
A **rising** dollar makes everything priced in dollars โ including bitcoin โ more expensive for the rest of the world, and usually goes with money leaving risky assets. A **falling** dollar does the opposite.
It is a background condition, not a timing tool: the relationship is loose and it changes, which is exactly what the 90-day correlation chart measures.
Published as-is by the Federal Reserve Board; we store and draw the daily reading without altering it.
Business days **only** โ there is no weekend or US-holiday reading, and none is invented. This is the Fed's BROAD index, not the ICE 'DXY' futures contract that trading screens show: the ICE index is six rich-country currencies fixed in 1973, while this one covers the currencies America actually trades with and is reweighted every year. The two move together but are **not the same** number, so do not read a level here against a DXY quote elsewhere. History starts January 2006, where the series itself begins.
ALERT THRESHOLD. The dollar alert reports a 20-trading-day change beyond โ2.888% or +3.470% โ the MEASURED 2.5th and 97.5th percentiles of 5,134 twenty-business-day changes (2006-01-30 โ 2026-07-24). It bands the CHANGE and not the level on purpose: this index has trended from the high 80s to the low 120s over twenty years, so a threshold on the level would be a calendar milestone rather than an event. On that history the bands changed 130 times โ 33 into a hard fall, 32 into a hard rise, 65 back to ordinary โ about 6.3 a year.
