How many dollars sit in every other coin, next to how many sit in bitcoin. Stablecoins are left out, because a dollar-token is not money betting on a coin.
The combined market value of the non-bitcoin coins we track, plotted against bitcoin's own market value, in dollars. Stablecoins (USDT, USDC, DAI, FDUSD, TUSD) are removed from the altcoin total.
When the altcoin line climbs while bitcoin's is flat, money is rotating out of bitcoin and into everything else — what people call altcoin season. When both fall together, money is leaving crypto rather than moving inside it.

In words: for each day, add up the market value of every coin we track except bitcoin and the dollar-pegged stablecoins; plot that beside bitcoin's own market value. Days when fewer than 25 other coins report are dropped rather than guessed.
The pool is the top-50 coins we track, not the whole market, so the altcoin total reads lower than a whole-market figure. History starts 2025-06-20, the day our own market-cap record reaches full coverage, and grows one day at a time — we do not backfill from vendors.
Altcoin trading VOLUME is not shown: we measure daily volume for bitcoin **only**, and a volume line we **cannot** measure would be a guess.
