A CME gap is the price space between the previous CME Bitcoin futures session's close and the first price of the next session after a market closure of at least three calendar days. Green zones opened higher; red zones opened lower. A bright zone is still open. A faded zone has since been traded through.
The gap is filled when a later CME daily candle reaches the old closing price. An up gap fills when a later low reaches or falls below that close; a down gap fills when a later high reaches or rises above it. A gap is a level traders watch, not a promise that price must return there.
gap USD = next session open − previous session close. gap % = gap USD ÷ previous session close × 100. The band runs from the lower of those two prices to the higher one, from the reopening date to its first fill date or the latest available candle while still open.
This uses the continuous/front-month CME Bitcoin future BTC=F, not spot Bitcoin and not every CME expiry at once. A contract roll can create a discontinuity near expiry that resembles a market-closure gap. Daily candles identify the fill session, not the exact intraday minute.
